Full-Time - 1.0 FTE ~ Salary based on Union Wage Scale
Whidbey General Hospital is seeking an Engineer with proficient working
knowledge in building and maintenance techniques, equipment and operation of
various systems including plumbing, digital and pneumatic HVAC systems, single
and three phase electrical systems including emergency generators, gas and
electric steam generation plants and telecommunications. Two years of additional
training in mechanics, electricity and plumbing is preferred as well as six to
eight years experience as a working hospital engineer.
Must be knowledgeable with applicable Department of Health code requirements,
NFPA and JCHO life safety and utility management regulations. Must have the
ability to read and understand job and equipment specifications including
blueprints and understand electrical schematics. Must have the ability to draft
equipment or construction specifications as required to meet the needs of the
hospital. Must physically be able to frequently move items weighing in excess of
50 lbs.
Job includes rotational on call "Duty Engineer" status for one week at a time.
Perseverance, motivated, self-driven and the ability to work independently are
definite assets. High school diploma or equivalent required. **Weekend
Duty/Holiday Rotation**

MANAGER - FACILITIES / SAFETY OFFICER / PROVIDENCE SEASIDE HOSPITAL / SEASIDE,

General Summary:
Manages the physical plant, equipment, grounds, and interiors of the hospital
and clinics, including offsite locations; establishes, monitors and controls the
preventive maintenance programs and biomedical equipment programs; directs and
implements security and safety policies. Chairs the Environment of Care Safety
Committee. Responsible for oversight of all of the facility department’s vendors
working onsite. The manager will represent the hospital facility services on
master facility planning and all construction projects, and be a member of any
PSH/regional construction teams.
Directs team of four (4) maintenance workers plus licensed electrician.
Establishes all departmental policies and procedures. Ensures that the hospital
is in compliance with current standards of the Joint Commission and all
applicable federal, state and local laws. Responsible for the operation,
testing, maintenance and repair of all environmental systems equipment of the
central plant including the boilers, chillers, generators, pumps, compressors
and other equipment which provide services critical to the operation of the
hospital and clinics. Coordinates all electrical and plumbing inspections and
testing of all life/safety equipment, including fire protection systems,
security systems, medical gases and medical equipment. Maintains the Life Safety
Plan.
Education, Training & Experience (includes licenses or certifications):
1. College degree or minimum of ten (10) years experience in plant operations.
Supervisory experience required.
2. High school graduate or GED certificate required.
3. Limited Maintenance Electrical License or minimum of five (5) years
experience in repair and maintenance of electrical systems.
4. Refrigerant handling certification or minimum of five (5) years experience in
repair and maintenance of cooling systems.
5. Minimum 2 years experience in central plant operations/maintenance, with
chiller, emergency generators, high pressure boilers.
6. Valid drivers license required.
7. Trained or experienced in use of computerized mechanical system controls.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
1. Familiarity with OSHA and Joint Commission standards.
2. Working knowledge of equipment used in HVAC for the institution.
3. Knowledge of recycling and solid waste disposal.
4. Knowledge of Life Safety, Building Codes and Construction processes.
5. Knowledge of management, budget and business practices.
6. Knowledge and skill in the use of a personal computer and hospital
information services.
7. Ability to communicate in writing and orally to employees at all levels of
organization.
8. Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with departments,
managers and employees at all levels of the organization.
