State Board of Directors
We find ourselves in the midst of historic times. The COVID virus has required our industry and our teams to step up and do the impossible at healthcare organizations all over Washington State. We have set up tents, shuffled departments at a monuments notice, directed traffic for testing and vaccine distribution, changed positive air space to negative, invented PPE manufacturing techniques, turned conference rooms and operating theaters into ICUs, and continued all our regular preventative maintenance, while trying to keep our staff from being the next outbreak. We can all be proud of our efforts, our industry and our contribution to the health of our communities.
My short time in healthcare has been dramatically improved by my participation in this organization and I am very honored to be serving as the WSSHE President for 2021. Engagement in the Eastern Chapter brought me education, mentoring and networking opportunities that would have taken many more years if not for this organization. The knowledge I have gained through WSSHE, and the ability I have to call on so many of you when I have challenges, are values that come home to my hospital every day. Worth every penny of the tiny membership dues.
WSSHE is made up of a diverse group of men and women who all come together with common goals. We advocate on the state and federal level, providing a valuable voice at the table for our members. We encourage one another through social events, education and mentoring opportunities. We provide quality and timely education all year around and at our symposiums. The Platinum Elite status we gained with ASHE last year helps to show this organization’s commitment to excellence.
For WSSHE, 2021 needs to be about REBUILDING and increased RESILIENCE. Our teams are tired. They are ready to be done with COVID. Tired of being quite so essential. The Business Partners working from home are ready to come out and meet face to face again. I am very hopeful that at least one of our conferences this year will be in person. But we will take it one day at a time. One email from Infection Prevention. One Governor’s Phasing plan.
I want to thank all of our members for your work over the last year, stepping up and saving lives by supporting healthcare in Washington State. 2021 will be a journey of rebuilding and I look forward to taking that journey with such a worthy group of dedicated professionals.
