State Board of Directors

Hello WSSHE Family,

It is an amazing honor to serve as the State President in 2024. The sincerity of that statement is difficult to express in a letter. WSSHE has been a catalyst for my career, and I know I am not alone in that experience.  The lifelong friendships, education, and opportunities to hone soft skills have opened doors that would have otherwise been locked.

As my second term as State President kicks off, the concept of returning to our root’s rings in my mind.  It has been 12 years since my last turn at being behind the wheel of WSSHE, so the theme for this year was immediately obvious: Back to the Future.

Not only was this 80’s trilogy an iconic piece of 80’s lore, but it provided some lessons that are applicable to the concepts that I want to focus on in 2024.

Help the Younger You… or Dad

Marty goes back in time in the first movie and helps his dad, George, connect with Lorraine. In the same way, we need to help our new members and upcoming leaders connect and grow within WSSHE. Extending our portfolio of training programs will be key.

Additionally, my challenge to our tenured members is to find someone to mentor.  Share your wealth of WSSHE knowledge and experience with them.  Be like Doc and support an upcoming leader.  If you do, you will find you will learn and grow just as much as your protégé …or McFly.

Save the Clock Tower

The volunteers with their coffee cans filled with cash in Back to the Future were zealous about saving the clock tower. We have our own clock towers (hospitals) that need to be saved, retrofitted, and upgraded.  WSSHE can help our members do this through advocacy efforts and continuing to build our relationship with AHJs and the Washington State Hospital Association.

Bet on our Future

In the 2nd installment of Back to the Future, Biff made a mint when he brought a sports almanac back from the future. In a similar style, we have the recipe for success and a secret ingredient: YOU.  Our members are what makes this organization so great, but there are many hospitals across Washington State that currently do not know the power of (WSSHE) love.  Considering that, we will be reaching out to non-member hospitals this year and promoting the value that WSSHE can bring to their organizations.

Our future also includes the Spring Symposium in Chelan, April 17th-19th. The theme is picked: Back to the Future.  So, dust off the DeLorean, grab a hoverboard, and make like a tree and… get out to Chelan!
